ESTHETICS / Programs of Study

Courses offered at the Elizabeth Grady School explore the clinical, theoretical, and creative aspects of skin health care. Each course is designed to give students a working knowledge of product treatment client needs. Adequate preparation is first and foremost for success in esthetics.

Below are the individual programs of study that we offer:

300 Hour, Part Time Evening/Saturday

Our 300 Hour accelerated Esthetics Course is designed to meet the needs of those who want to become estheticians, but cannot cease full-time employment or outside obligations to do so. The educational information taught in this program has been accelerated to accommodate those ambitious, goal-oriented individuals whose lifestyles restrict them to a more concentrated course of study.

Upon successful completion and graduation from this program, each student receives two diplomas, one in Esthetics and the other in Make-up Artistry. Each student is then eligible for a Class 7 esthetic license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts after passage of the state licensing examination. The 300 Hour Esthetics Programs are offered twice a year.

The course takes 6 months to complete. Part-time day, evening and weekend classes are available.

600 Hour, Part-Time, Day Fall 2009

This program provides an in-depth look at the theoretical information and hands on training in skin health care. In addition, the business and sales aspects of the esthetics field are thoroughly covered.

Upon successful completion from this program, each student receives two diplomas, one in Esthetics and the other in Make-up Artistry. Each student is then eligible for a Class 7 esthetic license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts after passage of the state licensing examination.

The 600 Hour Esthetics program is offered twice a year and takes about 10 months to complete.

2009 Fall Combo Program

Elizabeth Grady is pleased to announce the addition of a new, dual-license program. Learn the art and science of esthetics and massage therapy and obtain both licenses in less than a year! The student will attend school Monday through Friday, 9:00-5:00 p.m. Half their day will be committed to a 600 hour esthetics program and half to a 750 hour massage therapy program. This program prepares the student to successfully complete their State Board Exam for Esthetics and their National Certification Exam for Massage Therapy. Graduates of the dual-license program will save money on education, have a broader knowledge of the salon, spa, and beauty industry, and have the potential to earn more money by holding both licenses. This program is a great opportunity!

Advanced Techniques and Tools for the Makeup Artist

ADVANCED TECHNIQUES AND TOOLS FOR THE MAKEUP ARTIST
This series of classes are designed for professional makeup artist. Prerequisites: Students must have completed a basic makeup program at Elizabeth Grady or be a licensed esthetician or cosmetologist.

I Bridal Makeup Monday June 22 9:00-5:00 250.00
There were approximately 2.2 million weddings in the U.S. in 2008. Couples spent an average of $30,000.00 on the entire affair and the bride spent an average of 125.00 on her hair and makeup on her wedding day. Don’t forget the bridesmaids, mothers of the bride and groom, and other wedding guests. Bridal Make-up is a fun and exciting way to combine your love of make-up with a great way to generate your income!

You will learn the special techniques for applying make-up on a bride, color coordination, and more. This class will also focus on specific bridal looks and step-by-step corrective techniques for difficult situations. From a big-city black tie extravaganza to a simple oceanfront ceremony, every bride deserves to look her best and this course will help you make sure she does!

II Photograph-worthy Makeup Monday June 29 9:00-5:00 250.00
The "Photography-worthy" workshop teaches the knowledge and application skills necessary to excel in the editorial and commercial print industry and on the fashion runway. The focus for this course is to educate students in the many makeup "looks" known as basic beauty, fashion and high fashion for bookings within the beauty and fashion industry. A complete understanding of how lighting affects makeup is crucial in order to excel as a make-up artist. This workshop will also cover in-depth, how to determine what to do differently for color choice and placement for the runway, an indoor photo shoot based on the photographers lighting or an outdoor shoot based on the weather and time of day, as opposed to makeup for everyday makeup as taught in the Basic Make-up Course.

III Creative and Corrective Makeup Monday July 6 9:00-5:00 250.00
For a majority of us our skin is not perfect, and for many of us we are always finding a way to cover those imperfections which can range from moles to scars. Corrective makeup gives us a way to hide those imperfections, making our skin look flawless. Some women have scars or other imperfections on their bodies that make them feel self conscious. If you have blotchy skin from too much sun exposure, flaws including age spots, bruises, birth marks or even for a tattoo you want to cover or hide- learning these techniques can help you or client feel better about themselves and more confident.
Things we will also be learning in this class….
• Stage, Theatrical, and Character Make-Up
• Period Make-up
• Camouflaging pigmentation issues (birthmarks, acne, age spots, etc.)
• Tattoo covering


IV Airbrush Makeup Design Monday July 13 9:00-5:00 250.00
This basic class focuses on the fundamentals of airbrush makeup with an emphasis on beauty makeup for photography and film. This class is centered around perfecting skin tones, designing contours and highlights on the entire face... eyes included!
Things we will also be learning…
• Airbrush application
• Foundation focus
• Highlight and Contour
• Eye Shadow design
• How to care for your Airbrush system as well as maintenance
• Color layering

Students are required to bring their own make-up brushes. Brush kits are available to purchase. Make-up kits are not necessary but are optional. Elizabeth Grady will provide all other materials.

Advanced Facial Massage

Join Beth Mirowski for a review of the fundamental Swedish techniques that are the basis of Esthetic massage, and learn to incorporate other massage applications, such as Shiatsu and Lymphatic Drainage, to guarantee your client a relaxing and restorative experience. Also, learn to create result-oriented facial massages for specific skin indications.

Workshop will occur on Tuesday July 21st, from 9:30a.m. - 1:30p.m.
Tuition is $100 and we are offering a 50% off for Elizabeth Grady employees and graduates
